Mangai Maanvizhi Ambugal review: It’s been a while since campus love stories have been told in Tamil cinema. Set against the backdrop of a hill station, Mangai Maanvizhi Ambugal is a not-so-bad attempt from director VNO, though the plot lacks interesting developments. Nalan (Prithvi Vijay) is an introvert, who falls in love with his classmate Kurinji (Mahi). The former keeps postponing his plan of expressing his love as he is worried about their friendship becoming a mess if the latter were to reject him. The twist comes when it is revealed that Nalan has forgotten his past —where he and Kurinji were in love with each other! Will Nalan be able to remember his past and the love he shared with Kurinji?

Though the film has an honest portrayal of romance, the lack of intriguing sequences and curiosity factor are quite evident, which lead to a disconnect among the viewers. The lead pair does what is expected from them; their chemistry works to a good extent, and the supporting characters, too, are decent. A major positive aspect in the movie is its melodious songs composed by Thameem. A screenplay with engaging scenes and emotional moments would have made this a better fare.
